CHESAPEAKE - Rufus R. Bly Sr., 71, of 204 Dominion Blvd., a native of Norfolk County and the husband of Amanda Bly, died Friday in Chesapeake Hospital.

He was a retired, 35-year employee of Fleet Anti-Aircraft Training Center, Dam Neck, and was a trustee, class leader, Sunday school teacher and member of the choir of Greater Bethel AME Church. He also was a member of A.M. Jones Masonic Lodge 79 and the Order of PHA Masons.

Other survivors include four daughters, Virginia B. Anderson, Irene Coefield and Marian Butts of Chesapeake and Gloria Bright of Virginia Beach; four sons, Albert A. Bly and George Bly of Chesapeake, Rufus R. Bly Jr. of Norfolk and Henry Bly of Richmond; three brothers, Percy Bly of Chesapeake, Samuel Bly of Cleveland and Henry Bly of Williamsburg; 23 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A funeral will be held at noon Tuesday in Great Bethel AME Church by the Rev. W. H. Grant. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, with Corprew Funeral Home in charge. Visitation at the funeral home will begin at 10 a.m. Monday. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
