Norma was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia, where she often worked in her father’s market while attending Jefferson High School and Radford College. She and her husband, Chet Hawkins, also from Roanoke, were wed in 1952 (age 20 and 28 respectively) and moved to Santa Monica, California where Chet pursed an Aerospace Engineering career after service in WWII and graduating from Virginia Tech.

Norma was always gracious and kind, with a warm Southern hospitality woven throughout all facets of her life. She was a loving, self-less, caring person to everyone who knew her, and everyone she met. Norma was a devoted wife, loving mother and a homemaker-her chosen profession, which she loved.

As a newlywed in California she enjoyed work in a women’s clothing store and for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft as secretary and Weights and Measurement Statistician until the birth of her three sons, Randy in 1954, Bruce in 1956, and Ron 1959. Tuffy , the family dog, also brought joy to her life for 17 years.

Over 65 years of marriage Norma raised a family and managed a bustling household while living in Reseda, Woodland Hills, Huntington Beach, California.

Norma enjoyed being a grandparent and spending quality time with David, Christina, Tara and Brian- all whom she held in her arms, loved and adored—whether babysitting, cooking up a fabulous meals or just having fun with board games!

Above all, Norma loved God and the beauty of His creations. All reflected in her love of family, every amazing meal prepared for others in her kitchen, and her love in gardening- especially her affinity for fragrant PINK ROSES! Norma was a beautiful, photogenic lady who always put others before herself. God’s spirit was reflected in her radiant eyes, warm smile and kind words to all. She loved to sing, and enjoyed playing the piano. Norma now has the joy of singing praises to God in Heaven!
