Emma, as she was also known, was the daughter of the late John Mason and Henrietta Eliza Horrabin, both born in England. Emma attended the South Central School in Southington, Hartford County, Connecticut. She married Samuel W. Moulthrop on December 29, 1885 in Thomaston by the Rev. N. L. Porter. She and Samuel had 12 children, 6 boys and 6 girls.
