Betty Jane Gwinner, 92, of Hannibal, Missouri, passed away at 8:18 pm Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at Bickford Cottage in Quincy, IL.

Friends and Family are invited to Betty's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, Missouri. Pastor Steve Barker will officiate. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM.

Her wishes were to be cremated and buried together with her husband. Burial will be at a later date at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hannibal, Missouri.

Betty was born September 12, 1927, in Olney, Illinois to Hobart Powell and Birdie Mae Lux Powell.

She was married to Bernard "Bud" Gwinner on August 6, 1960 in Rock Island, Illinois.

Survivors include three children: Brent Cassidy (Lori) of Kirkwood, Missouri, Leigh Ann Askey (Dave) of Hannibal, Missouri, and Toni Hallas (George) of Bettendorf, Iowa; nine grandchildren: Haley Wayman (Matt), Caty Bier, Alec Askey, Chase Askey, TJ Johnson (Kim), Todd Johnson (Andie), Travis Aring (Tracey), Mary Jane Holmlund (Zachary), and Sherri Johnson; numerous great-grandchildren, and her Bickford family, including a special friend, Sharon Zehnle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Terrie Johnson; one son-in-law, Glynn Johnson; a special cousin, Harold Trail; and one grandchild, Josh Cassidy.

Betty previously worked at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, helped Bud with the plumbing business, but retired as an administrative assistant from Hannibal High School. She decided retirement wasn't for her so she went back to work for a few years at Swiss Colony.

Betty was always best described as a "spitfire"; she was very witty with a keen sense of humor. She was an avid reader and loved to spend time browsing for books at the public library. She enjoyed playing the piano, attending high school sporting events where she would often sell tickets, and shopping. Betty enjoyed spending time at TJ's Supper Club, watching Everybody Loves Raymond on TV, or just curled up with a good book. She was an animal lover and loved spending time with her grand-dogs. Most of all, Betty loved being around her grandkids.

Betty was a Christian by faith and attended First Christian Church in Hannibal, Missouri for over 70 years.

Memorial contributions may be made to the NEMO Humane Society or First Christian Church of Hannibal.
