Bernard E. “Bud” Gwinner, 87 of Hannibal, MO passed away at 12:15 AM on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO. Rev. Steve Barker will officiate. Full military honors by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be at the funeral home following the memorial service.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mr. Gwinner was born on July 26, 1927 in Hannibal, MO to Bernard and Cordelia “Delo” Rupp Gwinner.

He was married on August 6, 1960 in Hannibal, MO to Betty Jane Powell, she survives.

Also surviving are 4 children: Terrie Johnson, Brent Cassidy (Lori), Toni Hallas (George) and Leigh Ann Askey (Dave); 9 grandchildren: Todd Johnson, Tammy Johnson, Haley Cassidy, Travis Aring, Mary Jane Holmlund, Sherri Weaver, Caty Bier, Alec Askey, and Chase Askey; 7 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gwinner was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Jack Gwinner and Don Gwinner; 1 son-in-law, Glynn Johnson, and a grandson, Joshua Cassidy.

Bud owned and operated his own plumbing and heating business in the Hannibal area for many years. He was well known also throughout the area as a high school sports referee, having refereed many football and basketball games for over 26 years. Bud enjoyed sports and especially was a fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball. Some days Bud simply enjoyed sitting in his driveway at home enjoying the weather and watching people pass by. Mr. Gwinner was also a veteran of the United States Navy. Bud was baptized Catholic, a 1945 graduate of McCooey High School and a Christian by faith.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children or to the First Christian Church of Hannibal, both in care of the James O’Donnell Funeral Home of Hannibal.
