CONNERSVILLE--Virgil C. Dunaway, 57, 205 W. 33rd St., died Saturday morning at the Veteran's Hospital, Indianapolis. He had been in ill health the past year. He was born in Fleming County, Ky., and he served as electrician's mate on the U.S.S. Duluth during World War II. He married the former Jean Tumbleson April 11, 1946, in Maysville, Ky. He was employed as a meat cutter with Croxon Provision Co. for the past 10 years, and he was with Greater Meats for 20 years before that.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post No. 1, Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 571, Connersville Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 1065, of which he was past president.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Steven P. of Connersville, and Patrick J., serving aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise; one daughter, Nancy Scott, Connersville; five grandchildren; his parents, Marvin and Hazel (Davis) Dunaway, Indianapolis; two brothers, Edward of Indianapolis, and Thomas of Greenwood; two sisters, Louise Mullikin, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mary Poppaw, Crawfordsville; nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Virgil C. Dunaway will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Thompson-Brown-Urban Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth W. Chandler officiating. Burial will be in Dale cemetery, with graveside military rites conducted by the Fayette County Veteran's Council. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
