She lived in the Parish of Odiham for 27 years and served it as a Rural District Councillor from 1925 to 1932 when she became the first woman Alderman of the Hampshire County Council. She was Chairman of the Health & Housing Committee for 8 years when she resigned to give place to a younger member but was recalled when war broke out to serve as Acting Chairman and was holding this office on her death. Amongst her other activities she was the first President of the North Warnborough Women's Institute which office she held for 5 years and of which body she always remained an active member.
Her life was devoted to her family and to the service of the public.
