Ethel Pearl Whitney was the daughter of Irwin Clayton Whitney and Mary Ellen Dickey. Irwin and Mary were the parents of six children: Berton Leroy who married Lena Ruth Davis, Carl Jason who married Iona Rowena Longnecker, Jennie May who married Leroy Ernest Bell, Ethel Pearl who married Glen Samuel Bell, Clarence Irwin who married Arminta Marie Halterman, and Elsie Mary who married Herbert Harrison Bell.

Ethel married first Glen Samuel Bell on August 31, 1910 in Nevada, Story County, Iowa and too this union were born six children: Ralph Irving, Estelene Ruth, Melvin Carl, Howard Leroy, and twins Harold Wayne and Gerald Dwanye. The two twins lived less than one month and were also buried in Peoria Cemetery. Glen died in 1951.

Ethel was a grand lady in every sense of the word. She was a devout Christian and firm in her faith her entire life. After Glen passed away in 1951 she married a second time to Samuel Jay Harmon on 31 Dec 1953 in the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Naushua, Chickasaw County, Iowa. Ethel and Jay did not have any children.
