He served in the US Army Air Corp. during the ending days of WWII in the Pacific. He was very proud of his farming background which carried over to his love of gardening later in life, he always kept family and friends supplied with plenty of garden fresh vegetables during the summer months. He enjoyed camping and fishing trips, playing cards and games with family and friends. He was a man of strong faith and a member for over 30 years at Chapelstreet Church, formerly 1st Baptist Church of Geneva. He had an outstanding memory and loved to tell stories he had from growing up in Southern Illinois, to his trips around the world.
Urel is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Nina I. Bradley; his two daughters, Rita (Lyle) Prunty and Linda Martinez, four grandchildren, Laura (Jason) Barker, Gregory (Lindsay) Prunty, Justin Martinez and Nicole Martinez; one great grandchild on the way; one sister, Rosalea Schuman; two sister-in-laws, Billie Bradley and Mary Bradley; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Daniel Martinez; eight siblings, Thelma Overstreet, Nora Overstreet, Dimple Cook, Hosea Bradley, Clara Gillespie, Clarence Bradley, Mavie Peterman and Amanda Mae Siercks.
Memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Chapelstreet Church, 2300 South St, Geneva, IL 60134. A memorial service will follow visitation at 11:00 A.M. also at the church. Interment will be held privately at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Il.
