Albert Slaughter was born on April 20, 1860 in Kentucky to Emanuel and Malinda Pritchard Slaughter. Emanuel, his father, served in the Civil War for the Union in the 5th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry. It is believed that his father's leg had to be amputated after the Second Battle of Bull Run and later died from his injuries. His father is buried at the US Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. Following his father's death, Emanuel's brother Martin married Albert's mother and assisted in raising him. Albert later married Sarah Cleary on April 20, 1882, with whom he had several children. Albert died on November 11, 1923, and, upon his passing, he was interred in Woodland Cemetery in Ironton, Lawrence County, Ohio. His wife, Sarah, passed away in 1930 and was interred next to him.
