Geurt Van Roekel was born January 29, 1904 in Moulton Township on the Paul Ryswyk farm to Jacob and Kate Maurs Van Roekel. On February 17, 1937 he was married to Catherine Bothof. Following their marriage they lived east of Chandler for 4 years. They then moved to Ruthton, MN for 6 years, then returned to Chandler where they farmed for 38 years. Geurt was a member of the First Reformed Church of Chandler for 38 years.
He is survived by his wife Catherine, 3 sons and 1 daughter: Jacob Van Roekel of Smithton, Ill.; Harvey Van Roekel of Chandler, Mn.; Gearold Van Roekel of Gillette, Wy. and Mrs. Dorothy Klingenberg of Owatonna, Mn. He has 4 grandchildren: Kirsten; Eve; Luke and Seth.
Also surviving is 1 brother, John Van Roekel and 3 sisters; Johanna Douma; Liz Nicholson and Jennie Stoel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Peter, and 2 sisters, Lena Schelhaas and Henrietta Vos.
