John Lovell, age 74, died Friday from injuries caused by accidentally running in front of a car Thursday evening.

Mr. Lovell, who lived a few miles west of Marshall, had borrowed a lantern from his neighbor, John Welsh, and was returning the lantern. In going down the steep incline in front of the house on his way home, Mr. Lovell went so fast that he could not stope when he reached the road where a car driven by L. O. Phillipe of Marshall struck and fatally injured him.

He was carried to his home and a doctor was called but to no avail.

The funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Bert Eckles officiating and interment in the Marshall cemetery.

The deceased leaves to mourn for him, one brother and one sister.

John Lovell, 74 years old, was struck by an automobile on the National road just west of Marshall, Thursday evening and was so badly injured that he died the next day. He attempted to cross the pavement in front of a car, but the car was too close. The driver made every attempt to avoid hitting him, and the coroner's jury placed no blame.

John Lovell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elisha Lovell, born in Edgar county, Illinois, April 18, 1849, and died Oct. 12, 1923, aged 74 years, 5 months and 24 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure, one sister, Amanda Ashmore, of Oakland, Ill., and one brother, George of Westfield, several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the home by Rev. Bert Eckel and interment took place in the Marshall Cemetery.
