Amelia Lopez Powers went to Heaven yesterday, on 28th December 2019, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Born on 26 April 1923 to Claudio Lopez & Rosaria Gastelum, who immigrated from Sonora Mexico to Peoria AZ in 1910, Amelia joined her sister, Ramona, in their small family and Carmen, Rodolfo and Gilbert would soon follow. After high school, Amelia started her nurses training in 1947, received her psychiatric affiliation and certification in 1952, but her most important work was with her children. In 1945, she married Claude V Lopez (1924-2004) and they had 6 children: Andrea, Claude, David, Gilbert, Larry, & Lee. In 1970, she married James Gentry Powers and became the step-mother to Doris Riggs and Bob Powers.

Known to her grandkids as, "Grandma Shoes," she had the most beautiful smile :) Such a dear kind soul, she loved everyone around her. You immediately felt loved and accepted by her, and she doted on her grandkids. They loved being around her. She said she knew it was Christmas when her mother made tamales. An excellent cook herself, her pork chops were the best! Honored as the "Peoria Pioneer of 2006," family came first and she will dearly be missed.
