The location of Emeline's marriage to William C. Caswell, circa 1840, is unknown, but likely at Newbury, Vermont , where they both lived about that time. All of their five children-- William, George, Lucy, Mary Jane, and Charles-- are believed to have been born near Waterville, Compton, Quebec.
The family moved about 1854 to Kilbourn City, Columbia County, Wisconsin (now the town of Wisconsin Dells). Son William H. died of disease in the Civil War, and Emeline's daughter Lucy and husband William passed away soon after.
Emeline followed her three remaining children to Kansas in 1881, and she died at the home of her daughter Mary Jane Caswell Thompson, in rural Republic County.
JEWELL COUNTY MONITOR - Mankato, KS Feb. 2, 1882 p.3
"Last Friday, G.A. Caswell of this city, was summoned by telegraph to attend the funeral of his mother who died at the residence of her daughter in Republic County, near Talmage, on the day previous, of an affection of the lungs."
"Mrs. Emeline Caswell, the deceased, was in her 70th year. She came here last spring from Kilbourn City, Wisconsin on a visit to her sons and daughter and up to the time of her death had not been sick over two weeks. She leaves two sons G.A. Caswell, of this city, and Charles M. Caswell of Republic County, and daughter Mrs. Mary Thompson also of Republic County, also a number of acquaintances in Kansas to mourn her death. The bereaved friends have the sympathy of their many friends."
