Westport Walter E. Greenleaf, Sr., 66, of Greenleaf Road, died May 21, at a Damariscotta hospital. After his retirement in 1976, he had operated Walt's Welding Shop out of his home.
Mr Greenleaf was born in Westport, Sept. 27, 1914, the son of Fred and Verlie Colby Greenleaf. He attended Westport schools and was employed at Bath Iron Works as a welder during world War II. As a member of Local No. 4 of the International Union of Operating Engineers, he was employed in road construction. He worked throughout the Northeast for many years, retiring to Westport in 1976. He was a member of the Lincoln Lodge of Masons.
Mr. Greenleaf leaves his wife, Nina Brown Greenleaf of Westport; his mother, Verlie Greenleaf of Westport; three sons, W. Eben Greenleaf, Jr. of Westport, Murlyn H. Greenleaf of Bath, and L. Stephen Greenleaf of Livermore Falls; a daughter, Phoebe Ann Cromwell of Westport; a brother Frank Greenleaf of Westport; a sister Violet Apt of Westport, 11 grand children; and 3 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset, with the Rev. William N. Hamilton officiating. Visiting hours will be Saturday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mayo Funeral Home, Federal Street in Wiscasset. Masonic services will be held Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Greenleaf family cemetery in Westport.
