Goldie Hanson Goldie Hanson, an educator who was the daughter of Selmas longest-tenured school administrator and a product of the community's school system, died in a Long Beach hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 15, after a long illness. She was 75. Private memorial services for Mrs. Hanson are being arranged by the family in Southern California, as are private concluding inurnment services. Mrs. Hanson was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Edgecomb. She was a native of Agra, Okla., and came to California with her family in 1912 when the late Mr. Edgecomb became superintendent of schools in Clovis. In 1916, her father was named superintendent of the old Selma School District. He headed the community's elementary schools for the next 30 years, a record of service never matched locally. Edgecomb Center, the community building now located in the Pioneer Village, is named for him. Her fathers career in education rubbed off on Mrs. Hanson. She was a 1924 graduate of Selma Union High School and went on to be graduated from Fresno State College. She became a teacher and served at the old Walnut School north of Selma as well as in schools in Reedley, Raisin City and Fresno. After she married Clifford Hanson, the couple moved to Martinez, which was the last community in which Mrs. Hanson taught. They later lived in Oakland and, in recent years, Long Beach. Mrs. Hanson was a member of a Congregational church in Southern California. Besides her husband in Long Beach, Mrs. Hanson is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Joyce Scott of Huntington Beach; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Sharp of Selma; and three grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be made in care of the donors favorite charity.
