When he was grown, he taught school for a few years in order to help fund his college education at Humboldt College in Iowa. He became a jeweler on a small scale and was very successful, expanding his small shop into a large store. He also opened Elisabeth Exchange Bank and was its cashier until he died.
He married Maggie Jane Price September 24, 1879, and they had 7 known children: Henry E. who died at birth, Albert Henry, Lois Elizabeth, Charles Anson, Clara Amelia, Anna Ruth, and Jessie Irene Nash.
Anson died at the age of 49.
