Born in Kutno, Varsav, Poland, the son of Czeslaw and Helena (Gunther von Schwarzburg), Zbigniew was educated at Cavalry Military Academy in Poland, entered the Polish Army and became a major in the Polish Army. At the start of World War II, Zbigniew was captured by Germans. He was held as a prisoner of war from October 6, 1939, to February 5, 1945, in Oflag II-D, a POW camp in Gross Born, Germany. He married Krystyna Zelazik on April 16, 1947, in Horsham, West Sussex, England. He arrived in the USA in February 1956 and was further educated at Pasadena City College in California. In the USA, he was a surveyor on the construction of highways in the Los Angeles area. He was survived by his wife, their daughter, and two granddaughters.
