Marcial del Adalid y Gurréa or Marcial del Adalid Gurréa or Marcial del Adalid y Gurrea or Marcial del Adalid Gurrea born 24 August 1826 in A Coruña, Galicia, Spain died 16 October 1881 in Pazo de Lóngora, Liáns, Oleiros, Provincia da Coruña, Galicia, Spain.

Composer.

He began his musical studies in his home town, where he began to compose. In 1844 he traveled to Paris with the intention of studying with Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849), but this did not happen. He moved to London, where between 1844 and 1849 he studied with Isaac Ignaz Moscheles (1794-1870).

Back in Paris, he seems to have taken some instruction from Franz Liszt (1811-1886).

He returned to Spain and lived in Madrid for a few years and then traveled to Paris, where he tried unsuccessfully to release his opera/obra escénica "Inese and Bianca" (1876-1878) never completed, Italian libretto by Achille de Lauzières (1818-1894). This opera, the first work of this genre in Galician, was eventually released by the University of A Coruña/A Universidade da Coruña on 21 April 2007 in a concert version.

He then retired to his pazo ('villa') de Lóngora, where he resided until his death, somewhat separated from the musical life.

He is considered the father of Galician classic song.
