Julia Verlene Atkerson Smith was born September 7, 1931 in Panola County, Texas to Jewel and Beatrice Britton Atkerson. She was attended school in Carthage and graduated in 1949. Mrs. Smith moved to Houston and worked for an insurance agency for many years until her retirement. She continued enjoying her life reading, crocheting and embroidering.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, R.H. Atkerson and Marvin Atkerson: and two sisters Janie Ruth Ballwebber and Ovvie Nell Robinson.
