He had been in ill health about five years.
Mr. Bonifield was a past president of the Metropolis Rotary Club; member of the Gideon Bible Society; former vice president of the Egyptian Council of Boys Scouts; assisted in organizing Khoury League baseball in Metropolis, and member of the First Baptist Church in Metropolis, where he was a deacon and former treasurer.
He was born Aug. 15, 1906, in Metropolis, son of Thaddeus and Emeline Edwards Bonifield.
Mr. Bonifield leaves his wife, Hazel; a son, Larry of West Frankfort; two grandsons; a sister, Mrs. N.A. Lukens of Herrin; and brothers, Fred of Metropolis and R. A. of West Frankfort.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church, Metropolis. Burial will be in the Metropolis Masonic Cemetery.
