February 14, 1840 - November 5, 1915
Limestone Township - Following an illness of many weeks, F. A. "D" Lance, aged 75, one of the most widely known men in the county and a unique character, died last night at his home in Limestone Township. The deceased had been in poor health for some time, but few of his friends realized that his condition was serious until a few days ago.
Lance was a familiar figure around the sessions of Superior Court held here and attended all of the terms for many years. He was at one point a magistrate and held a deputyship under one of Buncombe's sherrifs many years ago.
His family connections are very large. Lance was a native of Buncombe County and spent all of his life in this section.
Mr. Lance was on a visit to friends in South Carolina when he was taken ill and brought to the home of his son-in-law, Walter Ducker, in Limestone where he died. Mr. Lance was known as a loyal friend to those he liked or to any cause he espoused and the news of his death will be learned by sorrow by many people.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock at the New Salem Baptist Church in Skyland.
