Bernard Carrigan was born September 9, 1922 on the family farm in Boon Lake Township, rural Buffalo Lake, MN, to John and Mabel (Braithwaite) Carrigan. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Hector High School.
Barney married Alice Haas and they made their home north of Buffalo Lake. Barney and Alice were the parents of one son, Gary, and Alice died when he was just five months old. Barney married Mary Ann Bluhm on December 2, 1950 and they were the parents of three children, Joy, Jon and Dan. The couple lived north of Buffalo Lake until 1958 when they moved into town where they have resided ever since.
Barney had farmed with his family and then in 1958 he started working in the oil business. In 1962 he became owner/operator of his own oil business retiring from it in 1986. In retirement he drove school bus for many years.
Barney was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake. He loved playing baseball starting in high school and later was a pitcher for the Hector Town Team for one year and then for the Buffalo Lake Town Team for many years. He enjoyed golfing, horseshoes, bowling, mowing lawns, tinkering in his shop, and of course drinking Coke every day.
Barney's family fondly remembers how he always loved challenges and working hard throughout his years.
Barney is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his three children: Joy, Jon and Dan; his 14 grandchildren: Brett, Shannon, Jennifer, Ryan, Melissa, Jordan, Melanie, Brandon, Bryan, Allyson, Madison, Riley, Samantha and Brandon; and his numerous great-grandchildren.
Barney was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Alice Carrigan, his son Gary Carrigan, and his eight siblings: Ruth Tripplet, Clifford Carrigan, Sarah Irvine, Agnes Yerks, Harold Carrigan, Margaret Richards, Myron Carrigan, and Ben Carrigan.
