BARTLETT - In Martinez, Sat.. Oct. 28, 1950, Margaret W. Bartlett beloved wife of the late Walter B. Bartlett, loving sister of A. J. McMahon, and devoted aunt of Margaret Kerr, Adalaide McMahon, Francis Albin, Gordon and Bartlett McMahon. A native of Lafayette, Calif. 92 years. Friends are Invited to attend the funeral services at 1:30 p. m. Monday, Oct. 30th from the Brunscher & Connolly Chapel, 1124 Ferry St., Martinez, followed by private (sic) inurnment at the Chapel of Memories In Oakland. The San Francisco Examiner. Margaret was a school teacher and sang for church and events. Walter Bartlett came from the east coast to visit his sister. He fell in love with the town and Margaret. At that time in 1899 Contra Costa was the center of government in the area. The McMahons were also the center of power and wealth. Walter told Margaret he was widowed. He was not widowed. He was married and had children back on the east coast. He ended up divorcing his wife and marrying Margaret. They left Martinez and went to San Francisco where Walter taught music. The earthquake and fire of 1906 destroyed their home in San Francisco. They moved back to Martinez then eventually moved back to San Francisco. Water later retired and only gave private voice lessons until he died. By Mary Cummins.

Obituary of father Thomas McMahon.

THOMAS McMAHON, one of the oldest pioneers of Contra Costa county and the first City Clerk of Martinez, is dead there. He was a prominent business man of Martinez for thirty years and lived there for the last fifty-six years. McMahon was a native of Limerick, Ireland, aged eighty-one years and came to New York in 1850 and in 1855 married Adelaide Gibbings, who survives him with several children --Thomas A. McMahon and Mrs. Margaret Bartlett of San Francisco, J. J. McMahon of Alameda, George B. McMahon of Berkeley, A. J. McMahon of Martinez and the late Albin McMahon. He came to California in 1855 by way of the Isthmus of Panama, and of the party of 900 he was one of 316 on the ship Northern Light to survive the ravages of the cholera. The funeral will take place from the Catholic Church in Martinez on Saturday. The San Francisco Examiner, Feb. 16, 1912. Transcription by Mary Cummins.

McMAHON - In Martinez, July 21, 1921, Adelaide (Gibbings) McMahon, wife of the late Thomas McMahon, and loving mother of Mrs. W. B. Bartlett of San Francisco, George B. McMahon of Berkeley, John J. McMahon of Oakland and A. J. McMahon of Martinez, and the late Thomas A. and Albin A. McMahon, a native of Cork. Ireland, aged 83 years and 7 months. The funeral will take place Saturday, July 23, 1921. Funeral cortege will leave the residence of A. J. McMahon's at 9:30. a. m., thence to St. Catherine's church, at Martinez, where high mass will be celebrated for the repose of her soul, at 10 a.m. Interment Martinez. Oakland Tribune.
