Athlene Ellison-Hatcher, 81, of Princeton, formerly of the Dunns Road, Flat Top, died on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Princeton Health Care Center. Athlene was a graduate of Spanishburg High School and had attended Concord College in Athens. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Athlene was a member of the Mountain Creek Missionary Baptist Church on the Dunns Road near Flat Top.

Born May 27, 1933, at Camp Creek, she was the daughter of the late A. Carlyle Ellison (1906-1986) and Eva Moye-Ellison (1907-1974). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Arland Hatcher (1938-2003) whom she married on September 30, 1961 in Whitby, Raleigh County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Mercer County, WV, 1961, Page 31, Line 10, Application Date: September 27, 1961); a son, Lindell Arland Hatcher (1962-2011); two brothers, Roy M. Ellison Sr. (1946-2013), and Robert Ellison (Deceased), and a sister, Ruby Josephine "Jo" Ellison-Gearhart (1942-2007).

Survivors include her children, Kevin Hatcher & wife Valerie Hatcher of Bland VA, Daryl Ray Hatcher & wife Tabitha Hatcher of Princeton; five grandchildren, James Hatcher, Corey Justin Hatcher, Gregory "Greg" Arland Hatcher, Amy Lynn Hatcher, & William Ray Hatcher; one brother, John Ellison & wife Trudy Ellison of Princeton; daughter-in-law, Nancy Louise Lambert-Hatcher; brother-in-law, Charlie "Bud" A. Gearhart (1929-2017); a sister-in-law, Nancy Ellison; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 27, 2015 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastors Ralph Calfee & Jamie Mattox officiating. Burial will follow in the Ellison Family Cemetery at Dunns.
