Mary was born in Rociada, New Mexico, a small village in Northern New Mexico. She had nine brothers and sisters. The family eventually moved to Las Vegas, New Mexico where she grew up and attended school. After graduation she married Nicholas Abeyta and they moved to Vallejo, California in 1950.
Mary was a devoted wife and mother. In Vallejo, she raised four children and eventually went to work for the Vallejo Unified School District. She was an instructional assistant at Patterson Elementary School. She also worked as the girl's PE locker room assistant at Vallejo Sr. High. She enjoyed working with the youth of Vallejo and touched the lives of many students.
Mary is survived by her children, Mary Carmen Abeyta, Anita Abeyta, Rita Abeyta-Torres (husband Miguel), Nick "Tony" Abeyta (wife Kathy); grandchildren, Ricardo Abeyta, Miguel Torres Jr., Rosana Arita, Deleane Ramirez and Chris Perez. She was also blessed with four great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Colonial Chapels on Sunday, Nov. 17. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., with religious services beginning at 6 p.m. A Catholic Mass will be held on Monday, Nov. 18 at St. Basil's Church beginning at 11 a.m. Internment to follow at All Soul's Cemetery.
The family would like to extend our thanks to Kaiser Hospital's My Care My Home program and staff. We also thank Kaiser's Hospice program and staff for their care and support.
