Robert Dowling
Former Longview resident Robert Dowling, 82, of Alvadore, Ore., died April 9, 2002, in a Junction City, Ore., nursing home.
He was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Cross Lake, Minn., to Fred and Mary Dowling. He lived in St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minn., prior to living in Vader for eight years, Longview for 16 years and moving to Alvadore 12 years ago.
Mr. Dowling was a boxer while serving in the Army during World War II. He was a telephone pole grader for International Paper. He enjoyed dancing and watching sports. He was a member of the Worldwide Church of God and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
His wife of 52 years, Glenna, preceded him in death Jan. 27, 2002.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Dowling of Kelso and Michael Dowling of Minneapolis; three daughters, Ginger K. Conant of Longview, Sandra J. Gray of Junction City and Barbara Ball of Eugene; a sister, Edna Mae Pikula of Pequot Lakes, Minn.; and seven grandchildren.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at 1 p.m. today at 206 1/2 N First Ave., Kelso.
