The loving parents of John Scogin were William Reddick and Mary Ann "Molly" (Buckner) Scogin, who were married on June 3, 1874 in Nacogdoches County, Texas, with J.S. Milstead officiating.

William and Molly were blessed with several children: William Franklin, John Moses, Toliver Garrett, Emeline (namesake for her maternal grandmother), Laura Etta, David Washington, Lulu and Neva Scogin.

John married his beloved bride, Kathryn "Katie" C. Driver, on April 8, 1896. They were were blessed with eight children: M.K. (commonly known as MK), Allie Mae, Gertrude Marie, Rennie Olive, William Richard, David "Pete" Jefferson and Lydia "Liddie" Bell Scogin.

On September 11, 1918, John filled out a World War I Draft Registration Card in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, listing Taylor, Bienville Co., Louisiana, as his permanent residence. He was a rig builder.

After their lovely children were nearly grown, John and Katie unfortunately separated and divorced.

On April 16, 1930, John married Callie Evelyn (Hays) Holliday.

Callie was the widow of the late William Lewis Holliday. Callie and Lewis had been blessed with six children before his untimely death in 1913. The children were Mary Emma, William Lewis, Jr., Albert Robert, Partry, Helen, and Ruth Holliday.
