"Mrs. Ruth Apley, 83, of 2017 N.E. 54th Terrace, died Saturday at a nursing home in Smithville. She was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and had lived in College Springs, Iowa, most of her life before moving to this area in 1973. Mrs. Apley was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in College Springs 20 years before she retired in 1967. She was a member of the College Springs United Methodist Church. She leaves a son, Edwin Apley of Gladstone; a daughter, Mary Narron of the home; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Walker-Merrick Chapel, Clarinda, Iowa; burial in Maple Hill Cemetery, College Springs." The Kansas City Times, April 6, 1981
