Jane Ellen Harris Matthews, 104, passed away Oct. 22, 2019 at Little Creek Nursing Home, Knoxville, where she had resided as an Alzheimer’s patient for five years.
She was born and grew up in the Roberts Bend Community in Maury County, the youngest of the six children of O’Connor and Alice Harris. She attended Athendale School there and then went to Old Hickory, TN to attend Du Pont High School where she graduated in 1934. She married Ivan Matthews in 1935 and they lived in the Madison area with their family of four children. She lived in Hendersonville for 23 years before going into assisted living in 2002 and then to the Knoxville area for the last 12 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Ivan and her son John.
She is survived by daughter Emma Pitt, and sons Connor and William Matthews.
She was a member of the Rivergate Church of Christ and its predecessor congregations since the late forties and always held the church to be a major part of her life.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 1150 South Dickerson Road, Goodlettsville, TN.
