Father of Oak Ridge resident
Bedford Ivan Matthews, 91, of Hendersonville, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Tennessee Christian Medical Center in Madison.
Mr. Matthews' son and daughter-in-law, Connor L. and Marjorie Matthews, are Oak Ridge residents.
He was born in Giles County, the son of Bedford Leroy and Emma Pollman Matthews. Mr. Matthews had retired after 30 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service.
In addition to his local son and daughter-in-law, he is survived by his wife, Jane Harris Matthews; two other sons, John R. Matthews and his wife, Earlene, of Hermitage, and William B. Matthews and his wife, Linda, of Birmingham, Ala.; a daughter, Emma Jane Pitt and her husband, Fred, of Gallatin; a brother, Joe B. Matthews of Columbia, Tenn.; and by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, in the chapel of Cole & Garrett Funeral Home in Hendersonville with Clifford Owens and Sellars Craine officiating.
Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers are the elders and deacons of Rivergate Church of Christ. Active pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family was to receive friends from 2 to 9 p.m. today, April 27, at the funeral home.
The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to Rivergate Church of Christ, 201 Alta Loma Road, Madison, TN 37115, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
