Barbara departed with her parents from Liverpool, England on the S.S. Megantic in July of 1920. Their final destination was San Diego, CA. She was reared on Eads Ave. in La Jolla, CA. and attended La Jolla High, San Diego State and took graduate courses at the Claremont Colleges. When Barbara was in high school she learned how to sew. She enjoyed the art, took additional classes and made beautiful outfits for her children while they were growing up. For many years Barbara was known as an outstanding tennis player and teacher. Her administrative skills were recognized when she was elevated to school principal for the Carver, Central, Cleveland and Jackson Elementary Schools. She and Daniel Dawson married in Las Vegas, NV on Nov. 2, 1940. They divorced in 1951. Along with her multitude of outside duties she reared her three children, Diane, Joanne and Douglas. In later years she and two other La Jollans founded the La Jolla Historical Soc.: she was its first president from 1963 through 1966.
