Barney James Baker was born at Coshocton, Ohio, September 8, 1847; died in Oak Hill neighborhood, a few miles north of Houston, Mo., at the home of his son, Ross Baker, February 1, 1928, making his age at time of death 80 years, 4 months, 23 days.

Mr. Baker came to Missouri with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Baker, at the close of the Civil War and was one of our pioneer settlers. He was highly respected by all who knew him.

He was married to Miss Liza [McKinney] August 22, 1869, and to this union were born eight children, seven of whom are living: Ross Baker, Houston, Mo.; Virgil Baker, Houston, Mo.; Mrs. Ellen Hensley, Willow Springs, Mo.; John Baker, Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Alta Ogle, Gladbrook, Iowa; Walter Baker, Blackwell, Oklahoma; Eli Baker, Oklahoma.

Mr. Baker's wife died about 25 years ago and one son, Gus, also preceded him in death.

He is survived by one brother, Mr. John Baker, Houston, Mo., and one sister, Margaret Davis, Clara, Mo.

Mr. Baker was buried at Oak Hill cemetery February 2, the funeral being preached by Rev. John G. Bauer, of Houston. A large number of people attended the funeral to pay their respects to another of our good old citizens, whose passing is regretted by many friends and all extend sympathy to the bereaved ones.
