LCDR Paul H. Rohe, USNR, passed away on September 24, 2019, peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family. Paul was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, the only child of Annabelle Monroe and Winfred Karl Rohe. As soon as he turned 18, he enlisted and served in the USN during WWII.After the war, Paul pursued an education at the Ohio State University through the V-12 Navy College Training Program, graduating in 1949 as an Ensign in the US Naval Reserves. He served in the Navy a total of 27 proud years, combined active and reserve duty.While at OSU, he met a young nursing student, Mary Margaret Brinkley. They were married on June 25, 1950, and later blessed with five children—John, Jeff, Kathryn, Steve, and Mike. They spent two years in the Philippine Islands where he was stationed as an active duty intelligence officer. He worked his entire professional career with the Jeffery Chain Corporation, transferring from Ohio to Tennessee in 1973. He and Mary fell in love with the beautiful Lakeway region and happily made their home here. They became very involved in All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Morristown Theatre Guild, Cherokee Lake Sailing Club, Boy Scouts of America, and the Munro Clan Association. They also provided a loving home to help raise their two granddaughters, Olivia and Sonya, for a number of years. Paul was an avid lifelong reader and traveler, both nationally and internationally, journeying many times to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. He continued to serve his community through All Saints’ Episcopal Church and as a volunteer at Central Services in Morristown, working there nearly until his 93rd birthday.
He was preceded in death by Mary, his wife of 61 years, and is survived by his children, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Above all, he valued his commitment to God, his country, his community, and his family. The family would like to give special thanks to the kind and compassionate caregivers from Smoky Mountain Hospice, most notably nurses Patrick and Beth, and his private caregivers, Annette, Donna, and Marie, whose husband Ronnie also helped and supported Paul in his final days.
