Alan (Bud) Wakeland, 60, of 561 Saturn Dr, died Thursday, May 22, 1986, at his home.
He was born Aug. 5, 1925, in Indianapolis, Ind., attended schools there and graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington in 1949 He married the former Nita Overman, Aug. 11, 1946 in Indianapolis. He came to Midland in October of 1966. He had worked for Dow Chemical Co. for 20 years and the Midland Hospital Center for 10 years. Recently he had been doing private tax accounting. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, aboard the U.S.S. Wisconsin in the Pacific. He was a member of the Midland American Legion Berryhill Post No 165, the Indianapolis Masonic Lodge and the United Church of Christ. he was an avid outdoorsman.
He leaves his wife, Nita; sons, John Wakeland of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Scott Wakeland of Midland; a daughter, Karen Wilson of Taylor; his mother, Louise Wakeland of Indianapolis; a brother, Eugene Wakeland of Indianapolis; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Kent Ulery officiating.
Friends may call at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, and at the church Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
Memorials are suggested to Habitat for Humanity, through the United Church of Christ.
