A memorial service for Ralph B. Hughes of Bellingham will be at 11 a.m. at Hulbush Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James R. Sanders officiating. Private burial will be in Bayview Cemetery.
Mr. Hughes died Friday, Nov. 4, 1994, at Sunset Elder Care. He was 78.
Born April 2, 1916 in Silver Creek, Iowa, he graduated from high school in Battle Creek, Iowa.
He lived for many years in Bayview in Skagit County, where he was a former volunteer fire department chief. He also was a former board member of the Bayview Cemetery and a member of the Allen Grange.
Mr. Hughes worked for the Skagit County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator from 1951 to 1976.
He moved to Hermiston, Ore. in 1978, where he lived until moving to Bellingham in 1994.
Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth A. Fralick, in 1977, and by his second wife, Lucy Hubbs, in 1994.
Survivors include sons Jerald "Bud" Hughes of Bellingham and Carter Hughes of Ringgold, Ga., stepdaughter, Marilyn Tromp of Dayton, Wash.; brothers Delbert Hughes of Bloomington, Ill., and Bryan Hughes of Chicago; sisters Kaye of Ohio, and Ina and Enid, both of Florida; and numerous other relatives.
Memorials may be made to Whatcom County Hospice, 600 East Birchwood Ave., Suite 200, Bellingham, WA 98225.
