SHORT, Howard E.,
age 91, was born August 10, 1915, in Seguin, Texas. Passed away June 27, 2007, in Lancaster. Howard retired from the U.S. Air Force after 28 years of service at the rank of Colonel. He was a pilot in the Air Force, and flew the B26 Bomber during World War II, Korean, and Vietnam Wars. However due to a shortage in pilots during World War II, he was loaned to the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he also proudly served. Howard loved to build and fly remote controlled Gliders, and was a member of High Fly Club, Soaring Glider Club, and a go-cart club. He is survived by one brother, Charles Leroy Short of Texas; two nieces, Sally Moss of Texas, Kathleen and her husband Michael Basile of Lancaster; three grand nieces and two grand nephews, Lindsey and Christy Moss, and Kyle, Krystal, and Destiny Basile, and many friends and flying partners also survive him; Joseph Canelli, Bob Sumoski, June Coleman, and Emilo Charon. Graveside services will be held at 11:16 a.m., Friday July 6, 2007, at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside in Staging Area #7. Arrangements entrusted to Halley Olsen Murphy, Lancaster.
