ELLIS, Linda Benner April 3, 1942 - August 9, 2017
Linda Benner Ellis, of McGaheysville, passed away at age 75 on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 after a long fight with cancer. She was born April 3, 1942, in Arlington, Va., to the late Helen and Willis Benner. Linda grew up with her three siblings in Harrisonburg Va. Linda received a Bachelor of Science Psychology with a minor in Biology from Mary Washington College in 1962. She settled in Roanoke to raise her family. Later she moved back to her hometown and worked in the education department at James Madison University.
Linda had many creative talents and was a great cook. She made the best pies ever. One of her favorite projects was designing and building her home in Massanutten. She loved her friends and family and responded with "Let's get everybody together" to most situations. Very special to Linda were times spent vacationing with family at the beach. Linda truly enjoyed all children and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her three children, Elizabeth Kathryn Elis, Frank (Chip) Ellis, and Jennifer Ellis Logan; son-in-law, Jon Logan; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her devoted dog, Paisley; sister, Edna Black, brother, Hal Benner and wife, Caroline; sister-in-law, Sandy Shomo and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard (Dick) Benner.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Broadway Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Joan Wilson officiating. A private burial will be held at Solitude Cemetery, Buckingham, Va. The family will receive friends and family at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance, [email protected].
