Mr. Bjorkbacka Is Dead at 75
Abraham F. Bjorkbacka, 75, a retired miner, died Tuesday in a local hospital. He lived at 351 E. Granite.
Mr. Bjorkbacka was born in Ylivebeli Waasan Laani, Finland, March 20, 1889. He moved to Ishpeming, Mich., in 1906 where he worked in various iron mines. A U.S. Army veteran of World War I, he was wounded in France in 1918. He moved to Butte in 1937 and worked as a miner until he retired in 1954.
He was a member of the Miners Union, a life member of Butte Chapter 6, Disabled American Veterans; Butte Post 1448, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Butte Barracks 792, Veterans of World War I.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Raymond Beck, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; stepdaughters, Rena Rutz, in California, and Mrs. Lila Woodward in New Jersey; stepson, Oliver Peltonen, Wisconsin; granddaughter, Paula Beck, Wisconsin Rapids, grandson, Richard Beck, Wisconsin Rapids; sister, Hilda Prusi, Negaunee, Mich.; brother, Richard of New York City. Two other brothers in Finland also survive.
Services will be conducted Thursday at 1:30 o'clock in the Wayrynen Funeral Home with the Rev. Oliver Jones of the Gold Hill Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the Veterans of Foreign Wars plot in Mountain View Cemetery.
