Luvada Velma Barnett was the oldest of 8 children of John Franklin and Mary Jane (Reynolds) Barnett. She met and married her husband, John Henry Turney, in Love Co. I.T. August 20, 1891; John was in the Okla Land Run of 1889, and staked out land at Marietta. They lived in Pontotoc Co. at Round Prairie near Allen, and in Hughes County. She had one child, Eula, and raised her nephew, Harmon Barnett.
