Roy “Ed” Edward Adair, age 89, of Mattoon passed away at 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services honoring his life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Schilling Funeral Home with Ed's nephew, Chaplain Steve Hayes officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Ed was born on August 8, 1930 in Mattoon, Illinois the son of Howard Robin and Mildred (Pierce) Adair. He married Naomi Daily on December 2, 1949. She preceded him in death on August 20, 1998. He later married Wilma Kircher in May of 2000. She preceded him in death on October 10, 2017.

Survivors include his children, Mike (Rhonda) Adair of Charleston, Andy (Christine) Adair of Mattoon and Pat (Judy) Adair of Charleston; stepchildren, Lowell Dean (Lori) Kircher of Shelbyville, Cathy (Robert) Pauley of Pana, Sharon (Gary) Smith of Pana, Myron (Kathy) Kircher of Oconee and Michael (Cheryl) Kircher of Herrick; grandchildren, Heidi (Dustin) Chambers, Edwardsville, IL Kristy (Kevin) Hardwick, Ashmore, IL, Dustin Adair of Salt Lake City, UT, Michelle (Michael) Roese of Sullivan, D.J. Webster of Gays, Bailey (Anthony) Maldonado of Mattoon, Sam, (Allie) Adair of Mattoon, Lindsay (Aaron) Shelley of Berwyn, IL; and many step-grandchildren, great grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

In addition to Naomi and Wilma, Ed was preceded in death by his daughter, Joy Baumann; three grandchildren, Scotty Adair, Kevin Adair and Carlee Adair; and stepson, Terry Kircher.

Ed was a Korean War Veteran and served honorably in the United States Navy. He was employed by A & B Transfer Trucking, co-owned and operated Lerna Grain for many years alongside his wife Naomi, and was a rural mail carrier for 15 years. Ed was also instrumental in starting Lincoln Fire District.
