Arlene was the daughter of Howard Walter Frehner and June Sprague Huntsman. After graduating from Moapa Valley High School in 1951, she attended Utah State University, Brigham Young University and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She graduated from the latter with a bachelors degree in education and went on to receive her masters from NOVA University in Florida. Living in Las Vegas since 1956, Arlene married Garth Elwood Frehner on October 5, 1957, but they were later divorced. She was employed in several different jobs, but her first love was always teaching. She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey. Survivors include her daughters, Mary Lynn Wise of Las Vegas, Tonya Frehner-Miller of New Harmony, Utah, and Jan Pruet of Las Vegas; brother, Stephen Huntsman of Provo, Utah; sister, Lola Perkins of Toquerville, Utah; 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
