McKellips Dies While Hunting
Allen Scott "Scotty" McKellips, 2110 Calumet, prominent Valparaiso insurance broker, succumbed to a heart attack while on a hunting trip at Preston, S. D., Sunday, at 5:30 p.m. He was 52 years old.
According to reports, McKellips was was with a group of Valparaiso hunters, William Van Senus, Fred Bartz and Paul J. (Junior) Nuppnau, working down rows of corn in a field flushing out pheasants when he was missed.
Hurrying back down the corn rows, McKellips was found lying face downward at a point where the foursome had started. Efforts to revive him with recruited medical aid were unsuccessful, according to reports.
O. L. Allanson, McKellips partner in the insurance firm of Allanson and McKellips Agency, 406 Lincolnway, said today the group had left here Friday for a week of pheasant hunting in South Dakota.
Also on the hunting trip were Robert Lewis, Elmhurst, Ill., a former local resident; Larry Homier, Malden; John Van Senus, Valparaiso; Adolph and Bob Van Senus, Hammond, and Harley Rausch, Preston, S. D.
Five Fatal Attacks
South Dakota Associated Press reports said that McKellips was one of five hunters who died of heart attacks during the opening weekend of the state's pheasant season. Another of the estimated 140,000 hunters suffered a gunshot wound.
McKellips was born Nov. 2, 1906, in New Durham township (Westville) La Porte county, the son of Roy H. and Edith (Harris) McKellips.
He was married June 22, 1932, to Anna Mae Steward, who survives.
McKellips came to Valparaiso in 1933. He held various business and banking positions here before joining the Allanson Insurance agency four years ago. A month ago, the agency name had been changed to Allanson-McKellips.
Masons Plan Rites
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church here; Porter Lodge 137 FAM; Scottish Rite, AASR, of South Bend, and Valparaiso Lions club.
Surviving in addition to the widow are two daughters, Mrs. Faith Stevens, Niagara Falls, N. Y., and Miss Marianne McKellips, at home. Also one sister, Mrs. Maxine Forville, Lafayette.
Masonic services will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Bartholomew Funeral home at 2 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Oliver Starn, First Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
