OBIT:
William Smith, for years a prominent citizen of the Hartsville neighborhood, died at his home in Hartsvile early this morning at the age of eighty-six years. He had been ill for the past several months. His widow suffered a stroke of paralysis some time ago and it was feared that she could not live, but she is able to be up now and her condition is considerably improved.
Mr. Smith was born in Butler County, Ohio, and came to Bartholomew County in 1845. The rest of his life was spent in and around Hartsville. He was one of the few surviving members of the United Brethren Church at Hartsville who was active in the life of the old Hartsville College. Throughout his life he was a Democrat. No children survive, but there are two grandchildren, one living now at the Smith Home.
