Earl was the son of Mildred Henderson and Olaf Henderson, the half brother of Kenneth Sage; and the brother of Clarence, Dwight, and Noel Henderson.

Pvt Henderson arrived for duty in Vietnam on June 30, 1968 where he was assigned to and served with HHC Company, 212th Aviation Battalion, 1st Aviation Brigade, USARV.

On April 16, with no authorization Pvt Henderson was at the controls of a Army U-6 Beaver aircraft when he crashed it into the Marble Mountain utilities lumber yard in Quang Nam Province. The aircraft was destroyed and PVT Henderson was killed by the injuries he sustained.
