George L. Andren

George L. Andren, who celebrated his 90th birthday Saturday, died yesterday at the Cheney Care Center.

A lifetime area resident, he was born July 3, 1892, on a farm in the Cheney-Spangle area. His parents, William Carl and Selma (Johansson) Andren, came from Sweden and homesteaded there in 1889.

He attended the old Frog Hollow Grade School near Cheney and was graduated from Cheney High School, where he was on the football team.

Mr. Andren was employed by Centennial Flour Mills from 1924 to 1958, working as a warehouse foreman for mills in the area.

Mr. Andren and Vena Shonkwiler were married in 1918 in Coeur d’Alene. She survives at the Cheney home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Katherine Wileen of Seattle and Elizabeth A. Babb of Cheney; one brother, James E. Andren of Spokane, four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Riverside, with Hazen and Jaeger’s in charge.
