Union Civil War veteran. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as an Ordinary Seaman aboard the sloop-of-war USS Juanita. His hometown was listed as Deerfield, New Hampshire.
This grave was unmarked for 100 years until a headstone was placed by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Although Dunphy's burial is recorded in the GAR Cemetery the exact plot within Section 5 is unknown. His headstone was placed between the graves of two veteran comrades buried is spaces 94 and 95.
