William "Bill" Compton
September 19, 1950 - July 17, 2019
William “Bill” Compton, age 68 of Lilburn, Georgia passed away Wednesday, July 17th 2019. Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janice “Kay” Compton; his daughters, Kristin Compton (Stefan Hurwitz) and Jill Alderman (Alan); and his first grandchild due to appear in November. Bill is also survived by his sisters, Thelest Stewart (Larry) and Donna Edelen (Carl); brother, Michael Compton (Nancy); brother-in-law, Steve Anderson (MaryRuth); sister-in-law, Betty Pilkay; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives.

Bill was born in Ringgold, Georgia on September 19, 1950. He lived most of his life in the Atlanta metro area, but also lived in Tennessee, Florida, Alaska, and South Carolina. Bill attended Powell High School where he was captain of the cross-country track team. He also studied at Broward Community College and the University of Alaska. Bill served his country in the Air Force for four and a half years, and ended his military career as a staff sergeant. He retired after thirty-seven years at Southern Bell, Bell South, and AT&T. Bill greatly enjoyed collecting antique telephones from the late 1800s to the 1970s; his favorite phone was the ‘Princess Phone’ that was popular in the 1960s for its availability in multiple colors. Bill was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his expertise with others. Some of Bill’s other interests were history, genealogy, traveling, and college sports.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Research Institute at CancerResearch.org.

There will be no viewing or funeral as per Bill’s wishes. However, everyone who had the chance to know him will hold him in their hearts forever.
