Edie was the daughter of Byington & Delsie Colbert. They had all been held as slaves of Chickasaw Sam Colbert.

She joined in matrimony with Voyage James, and this union was blessed with at least five children, Ephraim, Malinda, Calvin, Easter, Annie and Hepsy James.

Edie applied for enrollment as a Choctaw Freedman along with her deceased daughter Annie's son Rennie, but departed this life on June 20, 1900 before enrollment was complete. She leaves to cherish her memory many grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
