"Boyd Grotte. 1918-2018
Boyd Grotte, 100, passed away Monday, January 29 at the Daniels Memorial Healthcare Center in Scobey. He was born to Thorbjorn and Hilda Grotte on January 3, 1918 in Scobey. He graduated from the 8th grade at the Gilchrist School and went on to graduate from Scobey High School with the class of 1936.
After high school Boyd worked at the Four Buttes Farmers Elevator until being drafted into the army during World War II. During his time in the army he received a shrapnel injury to the head and was given a Purple Heart.
Upon returning from his time in the service Boyd resumed his job at the elevator in Four Buses. Soon after he acquired land in the south Four Buses and Peerless area and began farming, which he enjoyed for many years to come.
On June 14, 1955 Boyd married Caroline Erstad. They continued to farm and live in the south Four Buttes area until retiring and moving into Scobey in the fall of 1998.
Besides his love of farming he enjoyed astronomy, watching football and baseball, and making a wide variety of things in his shop.
Boyd was produced in death by his wife Caroline, parents Thorbjorn and Hilda Grotte, brothers Herman and Caroll, and sister Thelma Tucey. He is survived by nieces Beverly Evans, Theresa Neutgens, Phyllis Douglas, Laurie Evans, Rachel Erstad, and Kathy McAdams; nephews, Butch Grotte, Chris Evans, Walter Erstad Jr., Kenny Erstad, Willie Bernard, Craig Erstad, and Chris McAdams as well as a sister-in-law, Alyce Erstad.
Funeral services are February 1st, with Father Pat Zabrocki officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at the Daniels County Cemetery with Waller Funeral Home in charge of arrangements."
